How to Choose the Right Scanning Mode on CZUR ET Max?

Scanning Mode on CZUR ET Max

Introduction

Scanning different types of documents often requires different ways of processing the captured image. A loose document, an open book, and a double-sided ID card all need to be handled differently to get a clean and usable result.

CZUR ET Max scanner software provides several scan modes to make this easier. The four main options are Flat Single Page, Facing Pages, Combine Sides, and Manual Selection. Each mode is designed for a different scanning situation, with automatic image processing available to help reduce manual editing.

So, which scan mode should you use? This guide explains what each mode does and when it is most useful.

Video Guide: Watch this quick guide to see how to select and use the four scan modes in CZUR scanner software.

1. What Is Scan Mode?

A scan mode determines how the software processes the image after it is captured. Depending on the mode you choose, the software can automatically crop the document, correct its orientation, flatten curved book pages, separate facing pages, or combine two sides of a card into one image.

The right choice usually depends on what you are scanning:

Scan Mode

Best For

Flat Single Page

Single documents and loose pages

Facing Pages

Open books and other two-page spreads

Combine Sides

ID cards and other double-sided documents

Manual Selection

A specific or custom scanning area

Once you know what you are scanning, choosing the right mode is usually straightforward.

2. Flat Single Page: For Individual Documents

Flat Single Page is the standard choice for scanning one document at a time. It works well for loose pages, forms, receipts, certificates, photos, and other flat materials.

Place the document on the scanning mat, select Flat Single Page, check the preview, and start the scan. The software can automatically detect the document, crop unnecessary areas, and correct the image orientation.

You can also open the additional settings to fine-tune the result.

Useful Features in Flat Single Page Mode

  • Smart cropping automatically detects the document boundaries and removes unnecessary background.

  • Cropping parameter adjustment lets you manually increase or reduce the cropping area when the automatic result needs a little adjustment.

  • Smart black edge optimization helps detect and remove unwanted black edges around the scanned image.

For materials such as ID cards with rounded corners, White space for round corners of an ID can preserve the area around the corners instead of cutting too close to the card.

If several separate objects are placed within the scanning area, Multi-target paging can recognize them and process them as individual pages. This can be useful for scanning small materials such as business cards or photos in batches.

3. Facing Pages: For Books and Open Documents

If you are scanning a book, Facing Pages is usually the better choice.

Unlike a loose sheet of paper, an open book naturally curves around the spine. The pages can also be slightly tilted or held down by your fingers. Facing Pages is designed to handle these problems automatically.

To use it, open the book and place the two pages within the scanning area. Select Facing Pages, check the page order, and start scanning. The software can flatten the curve, correct the page angle, crop unwanted edges, and process the left and right pages separately.

Useful Features in Facing Pages Mode

Flattening Curve

Corrects the curved area created by the book's spine, making the scanned pages appear flatter and more like the original flat page.

Finger Removal

Removes fingers used to hold the pages open during scanning. You can choose between With Finger Cots and Without Finger Cots, depending on how you hold the book. Read how to scan without fingers

Smart Paging

Automatically processes the two facing pages and lets you choose the page order. You can select Left to Right or Right to Left, depending on the reading direction.

Auto Page Skewing

Corrects pages that are slightly tilted, helping keep the text and page layout properly aligned in the scanned result.

Auto Page Mending

Helps restore missing areas of a scanned page in certain scanning situations, reducing the need for manual editing.

These features are particularly useful when digitizing books, magazines, manuals, notebooks, and other bound documents.

4. Combine Sides: For ID Cards and Double-Sided Documents

Combine Sides is designed for documents that have useful information on both the front and back.

For example, you can use it to scan an ID card, driver's license, membership card, or business card. Instead of saving the front and back as separate files, the software can combine the two scans into a single image.

The process is simple: scan the front side, turn the card over, and scan the back. Then select how the two sides should be arranged in the final image.

You can choose between A4 or A3 format, as well as horizontal or vertical combination, depending on how you want the final document to look.

If you are scanning an ID card with rounded corners, the White space for round corners of ID option can help preserve the shape of the card in the final image.

5. Manual Selection: Scan Only What You Need

Sometimes you don't need to scan the entire document. You may only want a photograph, table, paragraph, barcode, or another specific section.

This is where Manual Selection comes in.

After entering Manual Selection mode, use the mouse to draw a box around the area you want to capture in the preview window. The resulting scan will retain only the selected area.

This mode is useful when automatic cropping does not match your needs or when you only need a specific part of a larger document.

6. Which CZUR Scan Mode Should You Use?

Choosing a scan mode does not have to be complicated. Start with the type of material you want to scan:

  • Scanning one loose document? Choose Flat Single Page.

  • Scanning an open book? Choose Facing Pages.

  • Scanning both sides of an ID card? Choose Combine Sides.

  • Scanning only a specific area? Choose Manual Selection.

Scan modes help the software apply the right image processing based on the type of document you’re scanning. Once you select the appropriate mode, common tasks such as cropping, separating pages, flattening curved pages, or combining two sides can be handled automatically.

Whether you are digitizing paperwork, creating digital copies of books, or organizing cards and other small documents, choosing the right scan mode is a simple step that can make the entire scanning workflow faster and easier.
